Molluscum contagiosum is a skin infection which produces benign raised bumps or raised lesions filled with fluids on the upper layer of the skin. As the name suggests, it is caused by a virus called Molluscum contagiosum and it is a contagious disease. The duration of time the virus lasts on the skin differs in case of each person depending on the severity of the infection. But the bumps can remain from two months to four years. It is spread by direct contact with the person who has it or by touching the object contaminated with virus such as towel or cloth.
Viral Warts (Vulgaris)
Warts are eruptions on skin which are caused by Human Papilloma Virus (HPV). It occurs in different presentations. If the eruptions are flat, they are called Verruca Plana and if they are in the form of cone or cauliflower-like, they are called Verruca Vulgaris. They are contagious and can be spread by casual skin contact or through contaminated objects. It can also be acquired by sexual contact. However, everyone who comes in contact with HPV does not get warts as the each person’s immune system responds differently to the virus.
